To Belorado

It was a different walk for me today. After all these kilometers, my pack decided it did not want to sit properly! Every half hour or so, I had to stop and adjust. Also, about 50% of the walk was on a track beside a busy road. And the scenery was a bit monotonous. For the first time I pulled out my headphones and listened to a book.

But I did walk through several tiny towns. Each town has a magnificent church. These towns are slowly dying. The buildings are ancient and cost a fortune to keep up. Easier to build new houses close to a city.

I ended my walk today in Belorado. It has the first recorded market in Spain. The town is old, but due to the number of pilgrims who stop here, it is still thriving. There are a lot of murals in town.

There are two churches and one ruin.  One if the churches has 3 active stork nests.

The cliffs around town have a lot of caves and at one time many hermits lived in these caves. Now, many of the caves have been ‘renovated’ and are used as homes.

My bed tonight is in an attic. This albergue has 65 beds and is well run and comfortable.

My walk for today.
