Pilgrims' Prayers

Prayer on the Way of St James

We ask that you watch over us as we walk in the love of Your name to Santiago de Compostela.
Be our companion on the walk,
Our guide at the crossroads,
Our breath in our weariness,
Our protection in danger,
Our home (albergue) on the Camino,
Our shade in the heat,
Our light in the darkness.
Our consolation in our discouragements,
And our strength in our intentions
So that with your guidance we may arrive safe and sound at the end of the road and, enriched with grace and virtue we return safely to our homes filled with joy.

Opening Prayer for beginning a pilgrimage

Lord Jesus Christ
You call me to follow You
and I choose to walk with you.
Open the eyes of my heart to see my life in a new way.
With each step I take, help me to be open to change.
As I walk this pilgrimage, give me the grace to humbly follow you.

"Lord Make me an Instrument of Thy Peace

Where there is doubt that I may bring faith
Where there is despair that I may bring hope
Where is hate that I may bring love
Where there is offence that I may bring pardon
Where there is discord that I may bring union
Where there is error that I may bring truth
Where there is darkness that I amy bring light
Where there is sadness that I may bring joy

O Master, make me not so much to be consoled as to console; not so much to be loved as to love;
not so much to be understood as to understand;
for it is in giving that on receives; it is in self-forgetfulness that one finds; it is in pardoning that one is pardoned; it is in dying that one finds eternal life"
Prayer of St Frances of Assisi

Deliver me Jesus

From the belief that I have to earn your love
From the fear that I am unlovable
From the false security that my strength is sufficient
From the fear that trusting you will leave me destitute
From the rebellion against childlike dependency on you
From refusals and reluctances in accepting your will
From anxiety about the future
From resentment or excessive preoccupations with the past
From restless self-seeking in the present moment
From the fear of being asked to give more that I have
From the fear of what love demands
From discouragement

I trust You Jesus

That you are continually holding me, sustaining me and loving me
That your love is greater than my sins and failings and transforms me
That not knowing what tomorrow brings is an invitation to lean on you
That you are with me in my suffering
That my suffering, united with Yours, will bear fruit in this life and the next
That You will not abandon me, since you are present in your Church
That your plan is better than anything else
That you always hear me and, in your goodness, always respond to me
That you give me the grace to accept forgiveness and to forgive others
That you give me all the strength I need for what is asked
That my life is a gift
That you will teach me to trust you
That you are my Lord and my God
That I am your beloved one
