To Hornillos del Camino

I forgot to turn on my gps as I was leaving my hotel, so didn’t capture the first 6 or 7 km.

An Aussie befriended me today and the miles flew my as we talked. Later in the day, he took off (walking faster than me) to walk with another friend.

I have officially walked the first third of the Camino. They say that the first third conditions your body, the second third opens your mind and the final third, where your soul is lifted.

I have entered the meseta. The plains of Spain. I will be walking through wheat, barley and oats for the next 5 or 6 days. No shade. Without distractions, this is a great time to think, and consider. Some love this stage some hate it. I know some people who are going to rent bikes and ride across in 2 days.

Some pics of leaving Burgos. Beautiful in the day’s first light.

If this sign is to believed, I have walked over 300km!

All along the road, almost from the start, I have been blessed by the cheerful poppies.

I see my end point for today!

Shortened video. Today was almost 23km.

Edited to add:
I went to my first pilgrim mass last night. My Spanish was not up to the task, but I appreciated the idea.
Afterwards we had a delicious pilgrim dinner of chicken paella.
