To Carrión de los Condes

 I am sitting here in luxury! Because of all the problems making bookings, I ended up having to make a booking for a single room rather than a single bed here in Carrión. The single room in the hostel is as good as any hotel single room. And they told me if I paid in cash, they would do my laundry for free. Bonus!! No handwashing for me tonight.

The walk today was quite interesting. I decided to take the alternate route, which is about 1 km longer than the usual route, but it runs by a river. So I had a river and trees on the right hand, and on the left hand wheat fields forever. There was a lot of lovely Birdsong along the river and some shade. There was a high of 78 today, but I got into town before it had even reach 70°

This Pilgrim brought his very little trumpet like thing. This is the second time I have heard him. Another pilgrim has a ukulele.

To Boente

 Someone’s alarm clock went off at 5:30 this morning☹️ Oh, and then they started talking to each other loudly. So I had an early start this morning which meant I got to my albergue at about noon. They were really sweet and let me check in early. More forest walking and walking through small towns.  Lots more eucalyptus forests, too. More hórreos.  I went through one large city, Malide. There was an industrial park before we actually entered the city. It was not a very interesting city to look at. My albergue has  a swimming pool. It’s so cold that it’s really only good for soaking your sore feet. It was a short day today just over 20 km. Tomorrow will be about 28 km and a high of 76°. I’m going to try and get up at 5:30am again.🤣

Day 1: SJPP to Orisson

My first direction indicator. Mostly the signs are yellow arrows. Ready to start!   A short, but uphill hike today. It was spectacularly beautiful! I am still in France. I cross over to Spain tomorrow. The actual first day is supposed to be all the way to Roncesvalles but I decided to split the first day up in two, mainly because I was didn’t know how my gut would be after all the flying. My gut is doing just fine. Tonight I had the pilgrim’s dinner which consisted of a vegetable soup, the mixed vegetables with the local ham, and a lemon tart for desert. I had a banana for desert. After the meal, we all had to get up and introduce ourselves and say why we were walking. There were people from all over Europe as well as South Africa, Australia, the US, S Korea and Japan.  These short videos show my days.
