Puente la Reine
I am feeling a bit discouraged today, as there are more pilgrims, walking El Camino than ever before. It’s very crowded. I watched yesterday afternoon as many many pilgrims were turned away from our Albergue. I am seldom walking alone. I can always see other pilgrims, which is nice to meet new people, but it also means I can always hear other pilgrims, and there is no more walking in silence.
Because of the large crowds of pilgrims I now feel the need to book ahead a couple of days to make sure I have a bed at night. It’s OK there are bookings to be had but it’s not the walk that I was expecting. I now feel like I have to walk a certain distance every day, and be on a certain timeline. I met a pilgrim today who was very disappointed because she had come for a silent walk so she has given up and she was on her way to the bus station to get to the airport to fly to Greece. She has given up on actually doing a pilgrimage.
Anyway, I’m currently in Peunte la Reine and this is a very old old town. I think it was founded in 1022. it’s a very small town and very quaint. I am going to include some pictures.
My first stork sighting!
The bridge for which the town was named. Amazing architecture, with Moorish influence and some Templar influences as well.
